Pep Guardiola gave an injury update on four players after Manchester City’s 3-1 win over Copenhagen on Tuesday night.

The Blues are heavy favourites to progress to the Champions League quarter-finals once again following the convincing win in Denmark, with Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva and Phil Foden on the scoresheet. But it was a victory that came at a cost, with City picking up two injuries on the night.

Jack Grealish was replaced with a groin problem during the first half, while Silva limped off after he was on the receiving end of a heavy challenge in the latter stages of the game.

“Bernardo has a big knock in his ankle,” Guardiola revealed after the match. “I didn’t speak with the doctor but it looks muscular with Jack.“

“The last few days his mood at training was much better. He played really good, he was helping us with the tempo. He wanted to continue but we didn’t want to do damage even worse. We’ll make tests tomorrow.

“Hopefully Bernardo is not a big issue,” he added. “We’ve got Chelsea at home and recover as quickly as possible.”

Meanwhile, Josko Gvardiol and Mateo Kovacic missed the game through injury, with Guardiola providing a mixed update on the Croatian duo.

“Kova could come back [at the weekend]. Every game and training session we lose players and that is not good,” said the City boss, who added that Gvardiol will be out for a few weeks due to ankle ligament issues.

City had named a fully fit squad for the win against Brentford last week, but that’s unlikely to be the case when 10th-place Chelsea travel to the Etihad this weekend. The sides played out an entertaining 4-4 draw in November’s reverse fixture, and Chelsea come into the game on the back of consecutive 3-1 wins over Aston Villa and Crystal Palace.

As for City, their victory in Denmark means they’ve won the last 11 in all competitions, including six in the Premier League. Guardiola’s side trail leaders Liverpool by two points, but play their crucial game in hand next week against Brentford.
