The latest transfer news and rumours from Manchester United and Manchester City

A busy midweek Premier League fixture programme concludes on Thursday night as Manchester United host Southampton at Old Trafford while Brighton and Hove Albion visit Ipswich Town.

Manchester City were in action on Tuesday night with their title hopes further dented as they threw away a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2 with Brentford. The Bees scored in the 82nd and 92nd minutes to earn a point. Elsewhere, leaders Liverpool drew with Nottingham Forest and on Wednesday night Arsenal beat Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 in the North London derby to close the gap at the top to just four points.

As the Premier League action continues, a number of clubs are working in the background to bolster their squads. Man City are close to a deal for Vitor Reis with a medical scheduled for this week. Meanwhile, the latest reports in Spain have suggested that Martin Zubimendi - who is viewed as a possible replacement for Rodri - will not discuss his future until the end of the campaign after claims he had virtually completed a move to Arsenal.

Omar Marmoush bid rejected but talks continue

Manchester City and Eintracht Frankfurt remain in “concrete talks” over a January deal for the in-form and in-demand Omar Marmoush. City made their first official bid earlier this week but it only came in around the £50m mark and was rejected, with the Bundesliga club wanting around £67m. Sky Germany reports that there is still a “good” atmosphere to discussions and City believe they can seal a deal with a fixed fee of around £59m while offering the rest in add-ons.

Frankfurt were in action in midweek with Marmoush scoring his side’s second goal as they came from 1-0 down to beat SC Freiburg 4-1. The 25-year-old forward has scored 20 goals and provided 14 assists in all competitions for Eintracht Frankfurt. 15 of those goals have come in the Bundesliga with four in the Europa League. According to The Athletic, Marmoush is set to remain part of the Frankfurt squad for their clash with Borussia Dortmund on Friday night.

Napoli offer Garnacho ‘five-year deal’

Serie A outfit Napoli have been pursuing a move for Manchester United forward Alejandro Garnacho and reports in Italy from Il Mattino claim the club are confident of securing a deal and have offered a five-year contract to the player. According to Corriere dello Sport, the Red Devils have put a £58m price tag on the forward's head. Garnacho has not been a regular starter under Ruben Amorim but was in the starting XI for the FA Cup victory at Arsenal.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is leaving Napoli for Paris Saint-Germain with the Italian outfit seeking to replace him this window. According to reports earlier this week from Alfredo Pedulla, Napoli have already made an offer of around £38m for Garnacho. Gianluca Di Marzio has reported that Napoli’s sporting director Giovanni Manna met with Garnacho’s agent to “understand the feasibility” of a possible deal while also gauging the winger’s stance and what his salary demands would be. The Argentine international has made 19 appearances in the Premier League this season, scoring three goals and providing one assist. He has also played in all six of the club’s Europa League games, scoring once.
