Aymeric Laporte has admitted he has enjoyed this season ‘less than others’ at Manchester City, despite the Blues on the verge of winning a historic treble.

The defender, who has spent five and a half years at City, has struggled for game time this term and has played just 12 Premier League games in 2022/23. Laporte has also fallen to fifth-choice at the heart of defence and it’s been reported he will leave the club at the end of the season.

Speculation only intensified when he reacted emotionally during City’s final home match of the campaign. The 29-year-old was the only player to walk onto the pitch ahead of kick-off against Chelsea and then stood in the centre circle for a few minutes by himself. Laporte also teared up after the game, leading many to wonder if it was his last home match as a City player.

Therefore, while City could be on the cusp of making history, Laporte admitted 2022/23 has not been his favourite season in Manchester. Asked if he’d enjoyed the campaign, the Spain international replied: “Personally, much less than other seasons. It’s true that I’ve played a bit less but the most important thing is the team, the points, the matches and the trophies.

Pushed on what the future could hold for him, Laporte responded: “I can’t talk about these things.”

The defender was speaking after City wrapped up a second piece of silverware of the campaign thanks to a 2-1 win over Manchester United in the FA Cup final.

“We all have good feelings after a match like this,” said Laporte. “We know that United are a very good team with good, quick and technical players but at the end of the day it was all about scoring more than them and that’s what we did.”
