Man City defender Nathan Ake has returned to training ahead of Wednesday’s meeting with West Ham and Saturday’s clash against Leeds United.

Pep Guardiola’s side moved top of the Premier League table with a 2-1 win over Fulham last weekend but could be back in second by the time they kick off against the Hammers on Wednesday night as second-placed Arsenal host Chelsea on Tuesday.

Ake was forced off with a hamstring injury against Bayern Munich in Germany earlier this month and has missed wins over Sheffield United, Arsenal and Fulham.

Kevin de Bruyne missed the clash Fulham and Guardiola is unsure if the midfielder will be fit for the visit of West Ham.

He told a press conference on Tuesday: “Nathan yesterday trained with us, he feels good. Kevin has started to move but didn’t train with the team. We have training in a few hours and we will see.”

City have nine games remaining in their 2022-23 campaign, which will increase to 10 if they beat Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-final.

The club are on course for an historic treble and Guardiola is relishing a busy end to the campaign.

He added: “I’m tired, but not in my legs like the players. There is one more month and a week for sure, we fight for two weeks more. We play this way for six or seven years, we are used to it.

“It’s not the only time we’ve play seven times in one month. It’s the best way to live. If a player is tired, then someone else plays. We are not tired, if you have positive thoughts you are not tired.

“With just six games left, we have to recover and go for it. If one player is tried then hands up and if not hands up you’re ready to play for your mates.”
