One of Manchester City’s promising young midfielders is set to depart on a short-term deal.

Manchester City midfielder Mahamadou Susoho is set to join Peterborough United on a season-long loan move.

A deal has been agreed between the clubs and the player, with Susoho set to join up with the Posh following his involvement in City’s pre-season tour of the USA. The teenager played in all four matches for Pep Guardiola’s side, starting at right-back in the defeat against AC Milan.

Susoho, who mainly operates at the base of midfield, will use the move to continue his development while playing regular first-team minutes and building up his experience of senior football.

The Spaniard has previously played one competitive match for City, coming in a 3-2 Champions League victory against Red Star Belgrade, while he was named on the bench 12 times last season.

Highly regarded by City, there was a small chance Susoho could have been eyed up for a first-team role this season, but the performances of fellow midfielder Nico O’Reilly during pre-season mean he has claimed a place in Guardiola’s squad.

Susoho’s loan move is expected to be confirmed on Tuesday, and he could be in line to make his debut when the Cambridgeshire club take on Huddersfield Town this weekend.  Darren Ferguson’s side finished fourth last season in League One and won the EFL Trophy. It’s already proved a great location for precocious City talents to hone their skills, with City defender Jadel Katongo spending the 2023/24 campaign at Peterborough.

Elsewhere, two more of City’s youth-team players are close to securing moves away. Micah Hamilton is nearing a permanent switch to Middlesbrough, while Callum Doyle’s loan move to Norwich City is set to be wrapped up soon.
