Manchester City face Leeds United at Elland Road this week in their first Premier League match since the World Cup.

By the time the game gets under way in Yorkshire, it will have been 46 days since City’s 2-1 loss to Brentford, their last league encounter prior to the mid-season hiatus. That result left Pep Guardiola’s side in second place, five points behind leaders Arsenal.

The Premier League champions have dropped points on just four occasions this season, to Newcastle United, Aston Villa, Liverpool and Brentford, which leaves them trailing the Gunners. However, with City still having to play Arsenal twice in the second part of the season, the title race is still in their hands.

As for Leeds, they ended the pre-World Cup period with back-to-back losses against Wolverhampton Wanderers and Tottenham Hotspur, although Jesse Marsch’s side had beaten Liverpool and Bournemouth prior to that. Leeds began the December fixtures in 15th place, two points clear of the relegation places.

The match at Elland Road will be particularly significant for Kalvin Phillips, who left his boyhood club over the summer to sign for City. Meanwhile, Erling Haaland will face Leeds for the first time in his career, the team he grew up supporting as a child after his dad represented them from 1997-2000.

Ahead of the match, here’s all the need-to-know TV information…
