Kevin De Bruyne moves ahead of Arsenal legend in Premier League assists charts after Man City win

Kevin De Bruyne once again grabbed an assist in Manchester City’s win over Southampton on Saturday.

The Premier League champions moved to the top of the table courtesy of a 4-0 victory over the Saints at the Etihad Stadium, with Joao Cancelo, Phil Foden, Riyad Mahrez and Erling Haaland among the goals.

But it was Foden’s goal that De Bruyne turned provider for not long after the half-hour mark. The Belgian slid the ball to the City’s No.47 at the edge of the area and he took a touch before dinking over Southampton goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu.

In doing so, De Bruyne moved up to 95 assists in the English top flight, one more than Arsenal legend Dennis Bergkamp, as per the Premier League’s official statistics.

De Bruyne is now fifth on the all-time list of most Premier League assists and is seven behind Frank Lamprd who is fourth.

It’s Ryan Giggs who is first with 162, then Csec Fabregas on 111, while Wayne Rooney is third having registered 103.

However, there is some discrepancy on De Bruyne’s exact numbers with Opta claiming he’s on 94 assists rather than the 95 which the Premier League have counted.

The lower number would have seen De Bruyne move ahead of ex-City star David Silva on Saturday, with the Spaniard producing 93 from his trophy-laided spell at the Etihad.

Either way, De Bruyne has now produced more Premier League assists than any player in City history.

He’s registered eight assists so far this season from eight games and is well on target to have his highest number in a single campaign.

De Bruyne’s 20-assist tally from 2019/20 is the highest in a Premier League season, equal with the number Thierry Henry produced for Arsenal in 2002/03.
