Kayky’s first interview: Full the Q&A from Man City’s new man

The Brazilian has spoken to club media after making his move to the Etihad.

Manchester City’s latest signing Kayky has conducted his first interview with the club following his arrival from Fluminese this week.

The youngster has even joined in with first-team training and could be an option for Pep Guardiola in the coming months.

To start, can you tell us a little bit about yourself, where you were born, your age?

“My name is Kayky. I am 18 years old. I was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. I started playing at an institution called Mangueira. The Fluminese invited me to play. With them, I started to play in the youth system, I kept working hard for them, fighting for important trophies, winning titles. After that I was able to play in the Carioca Championship which is the regional championship. I did very well and established myself as a professional player. At Fluminese, City liked me and invited me to come. I accepted the proposal and now I’m very happy to be here.”

Now you are here at Manchester City, the Premier League, Champions League and other competitions. What do you know about the club and the football here in Europe?

“I’ve always followed the Premier League. For me, it is one of the strongest leagues and one of the biggest. It is a dream to be able to be here. Since I was little I have always liked to watch games and I have always followed Manchester City, also because of the Brazilian players who have played here. I have always followed it and I am so happy to be here.”

You are experiencing your first days at the club. Talk a little about your first impressions, the staff, your new team-mates?

“I am delighted with the facilities, it’s huge. I also want to thank everyone who has welcomed me. I’m being treated very well here by my teammates. Some of them, I already know but Fernandinho was the one who I had contact with first, also Gabriel Jesus and Ederson who are both Brazilian, but the others are also helping me a lot. Even though I don’t speak the same language, everyone received me very well.”

What are your goals as a player and as an athlete?

“I hope to start a new chapter here and that my career can be a winning one. I hope to be able to play amongst the first team and winning a lot of titles.”

Do you have any idols in the world of football?

“When I was growing up, I followed Ronaldinho a lot. He’s a big idol for me.”

Can you describe what sort of player you are?

“My style of game is fast and with skills to go forward and also, to think a little differently, to try some different moves.”

Have you had the opportunity to talk with the manager, Pep Guardiola?

“We haven’t talked about football but we chatted in person about [how] I’m feeling and settling in.”

What do you think of him as a manager?

“For me, currently he is one of the best managers. I know him and that motivated me a lot to come here. It was one of the reasons for coming here, because of him.”

Finally, we want to know a bit more about you. What do you like to do outside of the pitch and outside the world of football?

“I like to be with my family. We are always doing something, chatting, watching something. And my friends as well would go to my house and we chill. This is what I like to do.”
