The transfer expert responded to a tweet by City Xtra stating Alvarez ‘signed yesterday’ for the club.

Reports that City had agreed a deal with River Plate for the transfer of the attacker first emerged over a week ago, but with Alvarez currently on international duty with Argentina, the deal has taken a while to conclude.

Alvarez, who turns 22 today (Monday), is reportedly set to return to River Plate on loan until at least the summer, and will then meet up with his new City team-mates in the second half of 2022, although a concrete date has yet to be determined.

Alvarez can play as a central striker or out wide, and is seen as the long-term replacement for Ferran Torres, who was sold to Barcelona this window.

However, it looks likely to be the only addition City will make before the market closes on Monday night.

Elsewhere, youngster Matt Smith has been linked with a permanent move to MK Dons, and several other underage players could leave the Sky Blues on loan.

It was also announced over the weekend that Finley Burns will spend the second half of the campaign with Swansea City.

Pep Guardiola’s men are next in action on Saturday when they host Fulham in the FA Cup, before Brentford travel to the Etihad four days later in a game that could see deadline-day signing Christian Eriksen make his debut for the Bees.
