Jack Grealish injury latest: Man City star a doubt for England game v Greece

Jack Grealish is a doubt for Manchester City’s Nations League clash against Greece on Thursday night due to a knock.

The Manchester City star picked up the issue while on international duty and missed Wednesday training session.

It’s a blow for Grealish, who is in good form and has started the new season well. The winger has played in all of City’s last nine games, and impressed in the recent draws against Inter Milan and Newcastle United.

He also put in two lively performances for England over the September international break, which included a goal against the Republic of Ireland in Dublin. But he might not be able to continue that run at Wembley on Thursday, with interim manager Lee Carsley confirming the former Aston Villa man’s participation is uncertain.

“We'll assess Jack later. Our attitude would be we wouldn't gamble with any of the players,” Carsley said on Wednesday.

“It's important we put them first rather than ourselves. They will be OK in a couple of days, so we are not going to take any gambles with them.”

The news comes after Grealish this week praised Carsley and thanked him for showing faith after last summer’s frustration at missing out on Euro 2024.

“I thank the manager here for ­giving me that chance and having that trust in me. It’s obviously really meant a lot,” he told BBC 5 Live.

“I think throughout my career when I’ve played under mana­gers that have shown a trust in me and ­communicated with me the way he has in the past two camps it really helps me. It makes me feel that the manager really does rate me and I can’t speak highly enough of him since I’ve been here.”
