Inter Milan predicted line-up vs Man City: Ex-Man Utd player expected to start in Champions League final

Here’s the XI we’re expecting Inter Milan to go with for the final against Manchester City.

Few would have predicted at the start of the season that Inter Milan would be competing in the Champions League final, yet the Nerazzurri may be just 90 minutes away from ending what has been a largely frustrating campaign with the biggest prize of all.

For a long period of the season, it was uncertain whether Inter would even be involved in Europe’s premier competition next season, yet could enter in 2023/24 as reigning champions. The Italian side emerged from a competitive group stage this season that included Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Viktoria Plzen, before eliminating Porto, Benfica and AC Milan in the knockout rounds.

Cup competitions have brought the best out of Inter this term and they beat Fiorentina 2-1 last month to win the Coppa Italia, while they also claimed the Supercoppa by beating Milan in January.

But the league has been a different tale, and in late April Inter were sixth in the Serie A table. A run of seven wins in eight to finish the campaign ensured Simone Inzaghi’s side qualified for the Champions League with relative comfort.

Key to the Inter team is ex-Manchester City man Edin Dzeko, while the likes of Denzel Dumfries, Robin Gosens, Marcelo Brozovic and Lautaro Martinez are among the club’s higher-profile players. There is also a healthy contingent of ex-Manchester United players, with Matteo Darmian, Romelu Lukaku and Henrikh Mkhitaryan members of the Inter squad.

The latter is the only real fitness doubt between the two camps ahead of the game. The Armenian suffered a hamstring injury in the semi-final victory over Milan, but is expected to be available after recently returning to training.

Whether he will start is a different matter, however, and here’s how we expect Inter to line up for the final in Istanbul…
