‘I love this place’: Liam Delap signs contract extension with Manchester City

Manchester City striker Liam Delap has signed a new contract with the club.

The 18-year-old, who has represented England at underage level, said he’s loved ‘every day’ of his two years so far at City, and has agreed a deal that runs through to 2026.

Delap has been linked with loan moves to several Championship sides this summer and made his first-team debut against Bournemouth last season in the League Cup, a game in which he netted his maiden senior goal.

“It’s obviously a massive achievement for me,” he explained to the club’s official website. “I am so happy. I have been here now for two years and every day I have loved it. I have just loved the place and all the people. I can’t wait to do even more.

“I’ve got everything here. I’ve just fallen into place here and that’s why I’ve committed my future here. There is always someone there to support you. They make you feel so welcome and you get the best coaching and the best players playing with you so it improves your game.”

City’s No.48 is the son of former Stoke City midfielder Rory Delap, who made 359 Premier League appearances.

With Pep Guardiola short of forward options at present, the young attacker could be included in Saturday’s matchday squad for the Premier League encounter against Norwich City.

Ferran Torres started last weekend while Gabriel Jesus was introduced from the bench and, although Delap wasn’t involved in any form against Tottenham Hotspur, could make just his second Premier League appearance if he were to feature at the Etihad on Saturday.
