The Manchester City star recorded a goal and assist as Manchester City grabbed a deserved victory in Slovakia.

Phil Foden said he is ‘slowly getting back to it’ after his underwhelming start to the new season.

The 2023/24 Player of the Season hasn’t had a huge impact in the opening weeks of the campaign and he started just his second match in the 4-0 win over Slovan Bratislava.

A late return to pre-season following England’s run to the Euro 2024 final, a virus and a few minor niggles have led to a slightly disappointing first two months of the new term, and he started just his second game of the season in the 4-0 win over Slovan Bratislava.

But Foden put in an impressive display in Slovakia as City recorded a comfortable win. The 24-year netted his first goal of the term in the 15th minute before teeing up James McAtee after break.

Pep Guardiola has said in recent press conferences that he has no doubt Foden will return to his best levels soon, and City’s no.47 is already feeling better.

“It has been a slow start to the season so it was nice to get back out there and score,” Foden told TNT Sports after the game.

“I am feeling okay now, back at it. Obviously it was a slow start to the season from the Euros but I am slowly getting back to it.”

The win moves City onto four points after two games in the new Champions League format, but they could - and should - have netted more on Tuesday in a game where they managed 28 shots.

“I had plenty more chances to score - a few of the lads did as well,” said Foden. “On another night it could have been more but we’re happy with the 4-0. After the draw we had to get the win and our aim is to get into the top half so we’re on the right steps.”
