Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has started his Premier League career in incredible fashion and he is set to end the season as a record breaker.

When Haaland signed for around £51 million in the summer, many hoped he would add to City’s already strong strike force, but he has exceeded all expectations.

Having netted his 26th Champions League goal against Borussia Dortmund in just his 23rd appearance, the Norwegian is taking all competitions by storm.

He is now just one goal behind ex-Liverpool striker Luis Suarez (73 appearances) and four behind former Man Utd captain Wayne Rooney (85 appearances).

The 22-year-old has hit the back of the net ten times in just six Premier League fixtures and unsurprisingly leads the goalscoring charts.

He’s also just been named the Premier League Player of the Month for August, beating the likes of Gabriel Jesus, Pascal Gross and Nick Pope to the award.

Haaland’s outstanding form has made us wonder here at Manchester World – just how many goals could he end up with this season?

How many goals is Erling Haaland set to end up with this season?

If Haaland were to maintain his current minutes per goal ratio, average game time per match and is able to reach all finals with City, he will end the campaign with an astonishing 102 goals in all club competitions.

At the time of publication, Haaland has made a combined eight appearances in the Premier League and Champions League, playing 645 minutes.

In those 645 minutes, he has scored 13 goals, averaging a goal every 49.6 minutes. He has averaged around 81 minutes per match.

If City make it to every available final and Haaland was to play in every game with an average of 80.6 minutes played and the same minutes-to-goal ratio, he would reach 102 goals.

Sky Sports, who have published a similar article, reached the same total with their calculations.

Of course, a total of 102 is extremely unlikely but given his extraordinary record so far, he could well reach something that is at least on its way to that figure.

How likely is Erling Haaland to break Mohamed Salah’s Premier League goalscoring record?

Haaland has recorded a staggering 1.86 goals per Premier League game so far this season, with an average of roughly 81 minutes per game. This works out at a goal every 48.5 minutes in the league.

If he was to play the same amount of minutes and maintain the same minutes-per-goal ratio across all 32 of the remaining Premier League games, he would add an additional 53 goals.

This would leave Haaland with a total of 63 Premier League goals by the end of the season – 31 more than Mohamed Salah’s record of 32 in a 38-game season.

The likelihood of Haaland maintaining his current averages is very low, but the extent to how much he would beat Salah if he were to do so suggests it is fairly likely he will break the record.
