Erling Haaland's future is once again a hot topic as we start looking ahead to the 2022 summer transfer window and Manchester City are at the forefront yet again.

The Blues have been linked constantly with the Norwegian striker in recent years, and this summer offers a great chance to sign the Borussia Dortmund star thanks to his release clause.

Haaland can be bought for £63million but landing the forward will not be an easy task for any of the big clubs in Europe due to the competition for his signature.

City, Manchester United, Chelsea, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are just some of the major players in European football to have been linked with the 21-year-old.

What is the latest Haaland transfer news?

The January transfer window may be shut now but that hasn't stopped the rumour mill going into overdrive after the latest updates on the striker's future.

The Athletic are reporting that City 'will do what they can' in the summer to try and persuade Haaland to make the transfer switch to the Etihad Stadium. The website claims this despite adding that Haaland would prefer a move to Real Madrid.

However, a further report from El Chiringuito claims that a move for Haaland is not 'in Real's plans right now' as the Spanish giants focus on landing Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe.

Meanwhile, L’Equipe, via Get French Football News, say that the total cost of a move for Haaland would be £250m including contract despite his £63m transfer clause.

Haaland's comments on his future

It remains to be seen how the Haaland transfer saga plays out but it's safe to say the decision is on his mind.

Recent comments from Haaland showed how much the player and Dortmund are thinking about what could happen this summer.

"The last six months, I have chosen not to say anything out of respect for Dortmund," Haaland told Viaplay.

"But now the club has started to pressure me into making a decision, but all I want to do is to play football.

"But they press me to make a decision now about my future. So that means I have to make a decision soon.

"I have said from the beginning that I want to focus on football, because that is when I am at my best, not when other things come into my mind.

"Now they have put pressure for a while. So it is time to get things started. All I want to do is to play football, but I can't do that now."

Haaland has since clarified these comments by adding: "A lot of others were speaking - so that was it. Now, I don't want to say too much. I said what I said, and now we move on."
