The Manchester City attacker is one of four players on the planet priced at over £218m, using the latest statistical tool.

Erling Haaland has been ranked as the world’s third-most expensive football player despite the Manchester City forward’s record-breaking season.

Haaland has netted 51 goals in all competitions so far this campaign, including 35 in the Premier League - setting a new record for the highest individual tally in a campaign. He could also be on to win a treble in his maiden campaign in Manchester, with City still fighting for the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup.

Despite that, the latest data from CIES Football Observatory ranks two players in world football as more expensive than the Norwegian. In the latest post, CIES used a statistical model to rank the value of every player on the globe ‘under a scenario with a contractual duration of at least three years’.

Top of the list are Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Junior of Real Madrid. Both players are priced as more than €250m (£218m), with Haaland next on the list along with former Borussia Dortmund team-mate Jude Bellingham, who are valued as +€200m (£174m).

Next come Bukayo Saka (Arsenal), Pedri (Barcelona), Gavi (Barcelona), Jamal Musiala (Bayern Munich), Phil Foden (City) and Federico Valverde (Real Madrid), all of whom have a price northwards of €150m (£131m).

CIES rank Gianluigi Donnarumma (PSG) as the highest-valued goalkeeper, Reece James (Chelsea) as the most expensive full-back, with Eder Militao (Real Madrid) topping the list for centre-backs.

The tool claims there are seven Premier League players valued at above €100m (£87m): Haaland, Foden, Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, Julian Alvarez, Rodri and Marcus Rashford.
