Erling Haaland went on Instagram to congratulate Manchester City and Kevin De Bruyne after the comeback win

Erling Haaland was just as ecstatic as the Manchester City supporters after watching the last-gasp win against Newcastle United.

Oscar Bobb bagged the first Premier League goal of his career in the 91st minute to secure a dramatic comeback victory at St James’ Park. With 20 minutes remaining, it looked as though Pep Guardiola’s side would endure a frustrating evening as they trailed the Magpies despite taking an early lead.

That was until Kevin De Bruyne came on and, like the gladiator he has been for City so many times, dragged his team out of the mire. The Belgian scored a superb equaliser from distance, appearing to pass the ball past Martin Dubravka and into the corner from 25 yards.

In the dying embers, the magician turned provider, dinking a ball over the Toon backline for Bobb to take in his stride. The youngster simply rounded Dubravka with one touch before firing home with another to send the away end into raptures.

A vital away win takes City to within two points of league leaders Liverpool, who watched on as they enjoy a two-week winter break. Fans were rejoicing De Bruyne’s Premier League return - his first top-flight appearance since the opening day of the campaign.

He was not the only one, with injured teammate Erling Haaland left stunned from his living room. The Norwegian had an outside chance of returning for the trip to St James’ Park but Guardiola opted against risking his talisman.

An Instagram post saw Haaland edit a crown emoji on De Bruyne’s head as he took in the post-match plaudits. Another featured a selfie of the striker, clenching his fist in celebration after watching his team grind out all three points.
