Erling Haaland becoming Norway’s all-time top scorer is topped by Man City star’s announcement

The Manchester City forward extended his scoring record from club level to the international scene.

Erling Haaland had double the reason to celebrate on Thursday as the Manchester City striker announced two major life achievements.

The 24-year-old netted a brace in Norway’s 3-0 win over Slovenia in Oslo, a result that sees them sitting in top spot of their Nations League group. As well as earning three valuable points, Haaland’s double saw him become his country’s all-time top scorer.

The former Borussia Dortmund man has netted 34 from 36 international caps, taking him ahead of former top scorer Jorgen Juve.

But that incredible achievement was topped by Haaland’s post-match announcement that he and his partner Isabel Haugseng Johansen are expecting their first child. The forward posted a picture on Instagram with a ball up his shirt accompanied by a baby and ‘soon’ emojis.

Several current and former team-mates such as Kalvin Phillips, Aymeric Laporte and Jack Grealish commented under the post, with the latter this week announcing the birth of his first child, Mila.

Speaking after Norway’s game, Haaland said: “Of course, it is big and historic. I'm happy, and it's a fantastic record to achieve... I have many years left. I'm enjoying myself.

“It was a well-executed match. I am proud. It is a record that has stood for a long time. I felt good. It's been a long time since I've had this much energy on the field.”

Haaland has scored three in as many games over Norway’s Nations League campaign and seven in his last five international matches. At club level, Haaland has netted 11 from his 10 matches so far this season, including 10 in seven Premier League outings.

His good news comes just weeks after the tragic passing of Haaland’s close family friend Ivar Eggja. City’s no.9 was granted leave to miss the team’s recent Carabao Cup win over Watford to fly back to Norway and attend the funeral.
