Manchester City travel to Signal Iduna Park to take on Borussia Dortmund in Champions League action on Tuesday. The Blues have won three of their opening four group-stage games in the competition, including a 2-1 victory against the German club at the Etihad Stadium in mid-September.
However, it wasn’t all plain sailing for City in their last meeting with Dortmund. Pep Guardiola’s side fell behind to a 56th-minute Jude Bellingham goal but fought back to earn a late victory thanks to John Stones and Erling Haaland netting in the last 10 minutes of the match.

Pep Guardiola’s side come into the game on the back of a 3-1 win against Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League on Saturday, but were without Kalvin Phillips and Kyle Walker for the clash due to recovering from surgery. However, John Stones returned to the bench after missing their last five fixtures.
Phillips and Walker remain some time away from returning for selection, but there is positive news regarding the former’s recovery from shoulder surgery. As per Joe Bray of the Manchester Evening News, Phillips trained individually away from the rest of City’s squad on Monday morning, meaning he could have a chance of recovering in time for the World Cup next month.
Sergio Gomez is the only other absentee for the Blues on Tuesday. The Spanish full-back is suspended for the fixture after receiving a red card in their 0-0 draw with Copenhagen in their last European outing.

As for the hosts, they have six names currently sidelined, while Marco Reus and Donyell Malen could return against City if recovered from their knock and illness. However, there are question marks over the status of Nico Schlotterbeck who was forced off with a calf problem for Dortmund in their 5-0 win over Stuttgart this weekend.
Thomas Meunier recently suffered a broken cheekbone in Dortmund’s German Cup game against Hannover, while Jamie Bynoe-Gittens (shoulder), Mateu Morey (knee), Mahmoud Dahoud (shoulder), Sebastien Haller (undergoing chemotherapy) and Salih Ozcan (suspension) are also not available.
