Cristiano Ronaldo has been offered to Manchester City, as a cheaper alternative to long-term target Harry Kane.

That is according to Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport, who are reporting that Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes has contacted the Premier League champions regarding a possible transfer for the former Manchester United attacker.

It is claimed Ronaldo could be available for just £25m, much less than the potentially £160m price tag on Kane’s head.

Juventus are said to be open to a move for the Portuguese captain, with his monstrous wages crippling the club’s financial resources in the wake of Covid-19.

Paris Saint-Germain are also reportedly interested in securing Ronaldo’s services, but cannot afford the five-time Ballon d’Or winner given their recent acquisition of Lionel Messi, however, the Parisians are still lining up a move next summer when Ronaldo’s current contract with Juventus expires.

As for City, a £25m move for perhaps the most famous footballer on the planet does offer better value for money than Kane in the short term, but questions surely remain about Ronaldo’s ability to fit into Pep Guardiola’s free-flowing shape.

While Kane represents a much pricier alternative, at least City would still get five good years from the Tottenham Hotspur striker - the same can’t be said for the 36-year-old Ronaldo.

City’s pursuit of Kane has dominated the sporting agenda all summer, with the champions edging closer to the transfer deadline of 31st August, meaning this week could be crucial if a deal is to be struck.

So far this summer, City’s only recruit has been Jack Grealish, who made his Premier League debut in the 1-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur last weekend.
