“Tomorrow you will continue with a series of exams scheduled in advance as part of a general check-up that is usually carried out,” the club added.

In a follow-up post in the early hours of Wednesday morning, Independiente stated: “Carlos Tevez will be hospitalized as a precaution until the corresponding studies are completed.”

Tevez was appointed manager of club last August, following a spell in charge of Rosario. The ex-striker has led Independiente to sixth place in Group A of the Argentinian top flight and the second phase of the season commences next month.

Tevez is one of a select group to represent both Manchester clubs. Having signed for West Ham United in controversial circumstances in 2006, he then spent two years at United between 2007 and 2009, winning two Premier League titles and the Champions League.

His move across the city to the Etihad was contentious and resulted in the infamous ‘Welcome to Manchester’ billboard. Tevez spent four years at City, and won the 2011 FA Cup, a year before the team’s maiden Premier League title success.

In 2013, the Argentine, who earned 76 international caps, joined Juventus and won the Serie A title during both years in Turin. He retired in 2021, following spells in Argentina and China. Everyone at ManchesterWorld wishes him a speedy recovery.
