Pep Guardiola confirmed in Wednesday’s pre-match press conference that Erling Haaland is set to miss Manchester City’s trip to Brighton & Hove Albion.

Having sat out last weekend’s FA Cup semi-final win over Chelsea, it was hoped the Norwegian would return in time for the clash against the Seagulls. However, Guardiola confirmed he won’t be involved at the Amex, meaning Julian Alvarez should continue up front.

But there was better news concerning John Stones and Phil Foden, with the City boss revealing the pair will be available for Thursday’s Premier League game after missing training this week. It means Haaland looks set to be the only absentee for City.

The same can’t be said for Brighton, however, with the south-coast club missing eight players ahead of the match. Roberto De Zerbi confirmed Pervis Estupinan and Evan Ferguson won’t play again this season due to injuries, the same fate that has befallen Solly March and Kaoru Mitoma.

The Brighton boss also said Tariq Lamptey, Billy Gimour, James Milner and Jack Hinshelwood won’t be involved, while Julio Enciso is a doubt ahead of the game. The Argentinian scored his most recent Brighton goal in this fixture last season, and has missed the majority of the campaign with a knee injury.

There was one piece of positive news from the Italian’s press conference: Adam Webster is available once again. The centre-back hasn’t played since the start of March but is an option for De Zerbi.

Doubts: Enciso (Brighton). Out: Lamptey, Estupinan, March, Hinshelwood, Gilmour, Milner, Mitoma, Ferguson (Brighton); Haaland (City).
