“Of course I would love Bernardo to stay here, he is a special player for us,” the Catalan said last week.

“I don’t know what is going to happen. What is going to happen, is going to happen, and if he stays it is perfect. If in the end he has to leave, football is like this.”

Guardiola also confirmed that City are yet to receive an offer for Silva.

Silva ‘wants to play for Barcelona’

Spanish journalist Alvaro Montero said Silva does want to complete a move to the Nou Camp, but he feels there could be ‘economical problems’ surrounding any deal.

“Inside the club, there are a few voices that say it is possible; economically is it possible, and they answer ‘yes’,” he told Sky Sports.

“From my point of view, it is almost mandatory to see a player like Frenkie de Jong leave so Bernardo Silva could arrive, but they say that is not a problem. It is a tricky situation for sure.

“The players wants to come to La Liga and play for Barcelona, they know that inside the club. I believe he could be close to Barcelona because the club wants and the player wants [a transfer], but it is going to be an economical problem.”

That aligns with the view of fellow reporter Gerard Romero, who claims the midfielder is looking for a new house in Barcelona.

However, Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo report that Silva is ‘beginning to run out of patience’ and there is an acceptance that chances of completing a move are slim.

They add there is no confidence that Barca will match City’s asking price of around £67.5m.

Meanwhile, Liverpool have been credited with an unlikely bid for Silva, with Fichajes claiming the Reds and Paris-Saint Germain are set to rival Barcelona for his signature.
