Phil Foden has been seen in Manchester City training for the first time since having his appendix removed last month.

The England international was spotted during Tuesday’s session ahead of the second leg of City’s Champions League quarter-final tie against Bayern Munich. Foden’s return means City now have a fully-fit squad for the second leg in Germany on Wednesday.

The 22-year-old hasn’t played for the club since the 6-0 win over Burnley on 18 March, with Foden undergoing surgery during the recent international break. Guardiola revealed on Friday that the player would speak to the medical department soon in order to determine when he could come back to training, and his return is a huge boost for the City manager.

Foden is expected to be named in the travelling squad for the Champions League clash at the Allianz Arena, but is unlikely to start given his lack of match fitness. The Blues lead 3-0 from the first leg and are heavy favourites to progress to the semi-finals .

Meanwhile, Bayern manager Thomas Tuchel has also been received a positive update ahead of the second leg, with Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting back back in training for the Bavarian club. The former Stoke City man has missed the last three games with a knee issue but was seen in Bayern training on Tuesday.

Choupo-Moting has enjoyed a superb campaign for the Bundesliga giants and has netted 17 goals in 28 appearances this season, more than anyone else in Bayern’s squad. The Cameroon forward was missed in the first leg with Tuchel’s side lacking a recognised option up top as Serge Gnabry was deployed as an unnatural striker.

Meanwhile, Sadio Mane is available for the second leg after serving a one-match suspension for punching team-mate Leroy Sane at the Etihad last week. Speaking after Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Hoffenheim, Tuchel said: “Sadio Mane will be in the squad on Wednesday.

“He has already shown his reaction. It’s over, he’s apologised. It’s not an issue anymore. He trained with us in the week and he’ll be in training on Sunday.”

Manuel Neuer and Lucas Hernandez remained sidelined for Bayern with long-term injuries, but are the only major absentees ahead of Wednesday’s game.
