The Liverpool boss enjoyed his first meeting with City on Sunday, winning 2-0 thanks to goals from Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah. The victory means Liverpool now hold an 11-point gap over the reigning champions and sit nine points clear at the top of the league.

As for City, their winless streak extends to seven games - the longest in Guardiola’s managerial career, while he’s suffered four Premier League losses on the bounce. But Slot doesn’t feel sorry for Guardiola in his current predicament.

“You feel sympathy or empathy with the managers that are in a really bad place," the Dutchman said post-match.

"They've either lost many games or they're down at the bottom of the league but Pep has won so many things and he's shown so many times already.

"That's why the league is not decided in November. Last season they were eight points behind Arsenal I think in February. No one has to feel sorry for Pep, maybe for other managers but not for Pep. He's won so many things and he will be able to bring City back.”

Meanwhile, Guardiola said after the game that he has a ‘feeling that we will rebuild from here and we will restart from here’. City face Nottingham Forest on Wednesday night before a trip Crystal Palace on Sunday. The Blues are currently in fifth in the Premier League table after 13 games.
