Man City pocket £2.5m as Premier League transfer confirmed
Manchester City’s summer transfer kitty has been boosted again.
Manchester City have earned a fee of around £2.5m following Arijanet Muric’s transfer from Burnley to Ipswich Town.
The goalkeeper has moved to Portman Road for around £10m, with potential £5m in add-ons. The move comes less than two years after Muric joined Burnley from City.
The Kosovo international was one of Vincent Kompany’s first signings for the Clarets, with a sell-on clause of any future transfers agreed as part of the deal. That arrangement has now seen City pocket around £2.5m on top of incomings from previous summer transfers.
The Premier League champions earned £8.5m from Douglas Luiz’s switch from Aston Villa to Juventus. The sales of Taylor Harwood-Bellis, Tommy Doyle, Lewis Fiorini, Liam Delap and Sergio Gomez, in addition to Luiz, could net City around £60m this window.
City’s policy of including sell-on fees for outgoing players has proved successful in previous windows with Morgan Rogers, Romeo Lavia and Pedro Porro among the players who have earned City millions years after leaving the club.
Muric is the latest in that series and could come up against City in the second week of the Premier League season when Pep Guardiola’s side take on newly promoted Ipswich at the Etihad.
“I’m excited to have joined the Club and am looking forward to getting started,” the goalkeeper told the club’s website. “I watched how the team played last season and feel the style will suit me very well, so this is the perfect move for me.
“I have had good conversations with the Manager and Rene [Gilmartin, head of goalkeeping] and believe this is the right place for me to be as the club moves into the Premier League. I’m looking forward to getting started.”
Muric made five first appearances for City in their successful 2018/19 Carabao Cup run, having progressed through the club’s youth ranks. He also played 41 times for Burnley in 2022/23 as they gained promotion back to the Premier League. After initially losing his starting berth to James Trafford last season, the 25-year-old regained his place and played in the last 10 league games of the campaign.
