The 10 best performing players in the Premier League so far - with Man City and Newcastle flying high
We take a look at the 10 best performing players in the Premier League with Manchester City dominating - but Erling Haaland isn’t top of the list.
The Premier League is currently having a mid-season break due to the 2022 World Cup taking place in Qatar. This is the first time the international tournament has taken place in the winter as a result of the hot climate in the Middle East. However, the return of club football isn’t far away, with Manchester City looking to challenge for a third Premier League title in as many seasons. Pep Guardiola’s side currently sit second in the table, five points behind Arsenal.
As for their cross-town rivals Manchester United, they have been impressive under Erik ten Hag this campaign, despite a poor start. The Red Devils sit fifth in the table, three points behind fourth-place Tottenham, with a game in hand.
The World Cup comes to an end on 18 December with United returning to competitive action just three days later in their fourth round League Cup clash with Burnley at Old Trafford, while City will take on Liverpool in the same stage of the competition the following day. Both Manchester clubs will then turn their attention to the Premier League action the following week.
Ten Hag’s side’s return to league action will see them travel to the City Ground to face Nottingham Forest on 27 December. This will be the first meeting between the two teams in the top flight since 1999.
As for the Sky Blues, they will also be on the road. Guardiola’s side will clash with Leeds United in Yorkshire and will be looking to bounce back from their 2-1 defeat to Brentford last time out. The excitement surrounding the return of the Premier League is in full swing, especially with how tight the table is going into the second half of the season. City fans will be hoping the break will have reenergised their star striker Erling Haaland. The Norwegian is the league’s top scorer with 18 goals.
Red Devils fans will also be optimistic. Cristiano Ronaldo has recently departed Old Trafford by mutual consent following his criticism of the club. The decision didn’t come as a surprise to many of their supporters due to the 37-year-old’s poor form this campaign.
With that being said, we take a look at who the best 10 performers are in the Premier League so far this season, according to SofaScore, with Sky Blues players dominating the list, while there’s no room for United stars.
