5 things to look out for during the second weekend of the Premier League season

Liverpool and Burnley kick us off with a lunchtime clash and the weekend promises to be another thriller.

There will be plenty of goals, debuts and returns for plenty of fans.

We have named five things for you to look out for in the Premier League this weekend below...

Romelu Lukaku’s return

Romelu Lukaku’s long-awaited return to Chelsea was confirmed last week, signing for his former club for a reported free of £97.5 million.

The Belgian missed out on their Premier League opener against Crystal Palace but could be set for his second Chelsea debut in the London derby against Arsenal on Sunday afternoon.

Lukaku was highly rated during his time in the Premier League, scoring goals for fun for West Brom, Everton and Manchester United.

However, the striker reached a new level during his time with Italian champions Inter Milan and is coming back to the English capital a different beast.

If Lukaku is to start against Arsenal this weekend then it will be very interesting to see how he performs in comparison to his final days with the Red Devils two years ago - especially with his significant weight loss.

The Elland Road atmosphere

Many Premier League fans will be making their return to stadiums this weekend, however Leeds United supporters have been forced to wait a whole year to finally see their team back in the Premier League after 17 years.

It has been a long time coming for the Whites’ fanbase who were unable to witness their first season back in the top tier because of the coronavirus pandemic and there is no doubt about how brilliant the atmosphere will be when they take on Everton at Elland Road tomorrow.

If Marcelo Bielsa’s side can take an early lead then it will be absolutely electric in there.

A Paul Pogba masterclass

Everyone knows the quality Paul Pogba possesses but is sometimes a rarity that he will show it.

However, the Frenchman shocked us all with his unbelievable performance in Manchester United’s opening fixture against Leeds United, picking up four assists.

If the same Pogba can turn up against Southampton this weekend then we could be on for another brilliant show from the very talented midfielder.

Of course it is very early days, but if Pogba manages to keep this up then the Red Devils could be in for a very good season.

Jack Grealish’s time to shine

Jack Grealish’s £100 million transfer to Manchester City was confirmed earlier this month and has since had a tricky start to life with the Premier League champions.

The England international has made two appearances for Pep Guardiola’s side - the Community Shield and last week’s fixture against Spurs - and has lost both.

He is yet to showcase his ability in front of his new fanbase and this weekend’s clash with promoted side Norwich City could be the perfect opportunity.

The Canaries lost 3-0 to Liverpool last weekend and could easily replicate the unfortunate scoreline this time out.

If Grealish is going to kick-start his Man City career then this weekend’s game in front of the home crowd is the time to do it.

Mikel Arteta’s make-or-break

We are only one game into the new Premier League season and Mikel Arteta is already under huge amounts of pressure following Arsenal’s loss against Brentford.

The Gunners face Chelsea this weekend - a very difficult match but even more so given Arteta’s circumstances.

It is unlikely that the Spaniard would see the door so soon into the season but if Arsenal are embarrassed by their London neighbours this weekend then the rest of the year could be very interesting.

If Arsenal are to beat the European champions then it could kick-start their campaign and maybe - just maybe - Arteta can turn this sinking ship around.
