Admit it… no one wants to drive for hours for a weekend break, and with these local camping spots you won’t have to!

If you’re ready to munch some marshmallows and make some memories, we’ve got the perfect sites for you this spring.

These rural camping options blend natural beauty with engaging activities, giving you the perfect opportunity to explore our stunning surroundings without travelling too far. They’re ideal for family adventures, allowing you to get away from it all and blow away the cobwebs after a long winter.

Hartington Hills

Situated near the village of Hartington, no more than an hour from Manchester, Hartington Hills is a family-friendly campsite offering incredible views of the surrounding countryside that’s the perfect spot for a weekend getaway. Home to Shetland ponies and chickens (you can buy fresh eggs on site), there’s a genuine commitment to sustainability – and the resulting wildlife is sure to please the little ones. There’s lots to explore in the nearby Manifold and Dove valleys, which offer scenic walking and cycling routes.

Hayfield Camping and Caravanning Club Site

Located in the picturesque village of Hayfield, about 20 miles from Manchester, this campsite is an excellent base for exploring the Peak District National Park, particularly Kinder Scout, the highest point in the Peaks. The site, which is set in a peaceful wooded valley, offers spacious (and flat) pitches and it regularly receives glowing reviews for its warm welcome and top-notch amenities, which include clean washrooms and a well-stocked shop. Plus, there are decent pubs just a short walk away.

Newfold Farm Campsite

This spot offers a traditional camping experience in the heart of the Peak District in the village of Edale, 25 miles from Manchester. Newfold Farm offers everything you need: lots of room to pitch your tent with some beautiful views (Edale is the starting point of the Pennine Way), a fully licensed bar, cafe and bistro, and an on-site shop brimming with local produce. There’s loads to explore for outdoorsy types, or you can opt for a luxury bell tent and enjoy a home-from-home kitted out with duvets, pillows, table, chairs, camping stove and kettle.

Knotlow Farm

This family-run site nestled near the village of Flagg, about 30 miles from Manchester, is a working farm; you can spot Aberdeen Angus cattle and pedigree Dorper sheep in the fields in summertime. The peaceful setting makes it a ramblers’ dream, but if you tire of the beauty of the Peak District National Park then you can opt for trips to nearby Bakewell or Buxton. There is a small shop on-site where you can buy basic groceries and a home-made pizza service every evening, which you can enjoy by the fire.

Beech Croft Farm

Not too far away is Beech Croft Farm, another family-run campsite offering well-maintained facilities and stunning views of the Peak District. Kids will love the two play areas, one for younger children and the other for more adventurous over-sevens. Families can enjoy nearby walking and cycling trails, and the site's proximity to local attractions such as Chatsworth House and the Monsal Trail makes it an excellent base for exploring everything our amazing region has to offer.
