Disney+ movie Sleepover is spotted filming in Manchester

The filming comes as a study reveals Manchester is the second most cinematic European city featuring in almost 22,000 films and TV series.

Excited Mancunians have spotted what is believed to be Disney+ movie ‘Sleepover’ filming in Springdale Gardens, Didsbury this week.

The filming is understood to be for the upcoming Disney+ film , based on the teen novel, The Sleepover by Jen Malone and passers by reported seeing the film crew on Monday (June 26)

A US version, titled The Slumber Party is set to be released on Disney+ next month.

The book is based around the hectic, anxiety inducing aftermath of a sleepover birthday party hypnotism gone wrong when characters Meghan, Paige, and Anna-Marie and her soon to be step-sister Veronica wake up with absolutely no memories whatsoever of the night before.

They have a race to try and piece together what happened the night before in time for being picked up by their parents.

The filming comes as a study has revealed Manchester is the second most cinematic European city featuring in a whopping 21,886 films and TV series.

European cities play host to thousands of productions a year, from low budget indie films to blockbuster Hollywood franchises. Their romantic charm, rich history and iconic landmarks make them a favourite among filmmakers all over the world, as well as their state-of-the-art studios.

Travel experts at luggage storage network Stasher analysed how many film and TV series have been shot in 50 major European cities - with Manchester being kept off the top spot by the capital city London.

The capital takes the Oscar for the most cinematic city in Europe, ranking in first place in the study.

Disney have been approached for comment.
