It’s National Picnic Month, which means it’s the ideal time to gather your friends and family, enjoy some nature and your favourite summer time snacks.
When it comes to choosing the right spot, green spaces are essential. It also helps if there are on site facilities, such as toilets, cafes and playgrounds to keep the little ones occupied.
There are so many great parks in Greater Manchester, and we all have our favourites, but if you want to try somewhere new, here are some of our favourite parks to relax in.
1. Whitworth Park
This one is the closest park to the city centre. It’s one of the smaller parks in Manchester but it is also home to one of the main art galleries, which means you can combine your picnic day with some culture.
2. Parsonage Gardens
This tiny patch of green in the city centre is perfect if you want relax with your lunch away from the bustling high streets.
3. Burrs Country Park
Burrs Country Park in Bury is part of the Irwell Sculpture trail. There is also an centre for activities like kayaking, and plenty of picnic tables.
4. Haughton Dale
Haughton Dale in Denton, Tameside has an extensive network of paths for walkers and cyclists, as well ancient woodland to explore. There are also plenty of picnic tables for visitors to enjoy.
