Backyard Cinema is returning to Manchester in July – and this time the theme is Miami Beach.

From 5 July, the roof of Mayfield Depot will be transformed into the sunshine state, with retro 80s vibes and its own sandy beach. The program includes screenings of highly-anticipated new releases like Barbie and Indiana Jones, as well as summer classics like Dirty Dancing.

This is the second the immersive movie experience has come to Manchester. Over the Christmas period, the rooftop venue was turned into a winter wonderland with an extended run of festive films.

Tickets go on sale for the summer season today (6 June) and start at £9.50. They can be purchased via the Backyard Cinema website.

What can we expect?

The Backyard Cinema experience starts as soon as you enter. Guests are greeted by staff of the art-deco Miami Beach Hotel, where they can also enjoy a signature palm tree cocktail from the Flamingo Beach Bar. Around 30 tonnes of sand is also being used to create the real indoor beach experience, which means guests can sit back and watch the film with their feet in the sand.

Every Friday, Backyard Cinema will also host a Dirty Dancing Beach Party, where guests can dance along to the soundtrack and enjoy the other special surprises the event offers. There will also be Sing-a-long screenings of Grease, Mamma Mia and The Greatest Showman, in which audience participation is actively encouraged.

Other hit releases from recent years will also be shown, such as the live-action Little Mermaid, which is currently in cinemas, and last year’s blockbuster hit Top Gun: Maverick. Other films include Dirty Dance, Grease, Back to the Future and Pulp Fiction.
