It is looking increasingly more likely that Manchester United are going to pip Liverpool to the post when it comes to signing Mason Mount this summer, according to recent reports. Despite Jurgen Klopp’s side being listed as front-runners for his signature for some time now, the Reds have elbowed their way in and beaten their rivals to the punch.

Widespread reports on Wednesday stated that Mount has agreed personal terms with United, as Chelsea have conceded they will lose him this transfer window. Naturally, this is a big blow for Liverpool, who had identified the 24-year-old as one of their main alternatives to Jude Bellingham.

The latest update on Mount’s situation reports that Erik ten Hag is pushing to get a deal over the line as soon as possible, meaning Liverpool could be officially snubbed of their pursuit any day now. Chelsea are said to have valued Mount at a hefty £80 million, despite him having just one year left on his current deal. United are confident of negotiating a smaller fee though, especially with the player being unhappy with his current situation.

Despite new Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino determined to keep the England international at Stamford Bridge, the Blues simply haven’t gotten anywhere with agreements for a new deal. Wages were said to be the main issue for Mount and he wanted to be earning a similar figure to the likes of Reece James, but it seems any talks over more money have stagnated.

Ten Hag has made it clear that he wants the deal wrapped up imminently, having also stressed that he is hungry for new signings. The Dutchman recently spoke to the United board and urged them to bring in ‘better players’ as the Red Devils look to push on from their third-place Premier League finish this season.

Usual top four contenders Chelsea finished well below the mark this term. They picked up just 44 points and finished outside of the top 10, while Mount was limited to 24 Premier Legaue appearances due to injury problems.
