Premier League team of the season: Man Utd, Man City & Arsenal stars make experts’ XI - gallery

Manchester City have three representatives in the team of the season, while Manchester United have two.

The 2022/23 Premier League campaign concluded at the weekend with Manchester City and Manchester United finishing inside the top three.

City, of course, took first place with three matches to spare and ended the campaign on 89 points. As for United, they had already secured a Champions League spot before the weekend, and the 2-1 victory over Fulham saw Erik ten Hag’s men beat Newcastle United to third.

But with the Premier League season now wrapped up, fans, pundits and players have been picking their unofficial teams of the season. In fact, our football reporter has already given his verdict, with Rodri, Kevin De Bruyne, Erling Haaland and Marcus Rashford the Manchester representatives in our team.

But WhoScored have been tracking the performances of every player throughout the campaign and, using their statistical algorithm, rate every display out of 10.

“Ratings are based on a unique, comprehensive statistical algorithm, calculated live during the game,” WhoScored explain. “There are over 200 raw statistics included in the calculation of a player’s/team’s rating, weighted according to their influence within the game. Every event of importance is taken into account, with a positive or negative effect on ratings weighted in relation to its area on the pitch and its outcome.”

At the end of the campaign, the players with the highest average score make the team of the season, although this isn’t technically the best 11-rated players - for instance, the highest ranking goalkeeper is 45th in the overall ratings.
