Ian Wright has been speaking about Manchester United star Jadon Sancho after what has been a frustrating season for the winger.

Sancho is yet to fully prove himself at Old Trafford having arrived on a huge fee during the summer of 2021. Last season, Sancho was able to pass off his lack of progress on what was - at the time - a dysfunctional club, with many players struggling to reach their best form under Ralf Rangnick.

But the majority have kicked on under Erik ten Hag this season, with United enjoying significant progress in their first season under the Dutchman.

Sancho hasn’t been at his best, though, scoring seven and assisting three in 40 appearances across all competitions. While there has been some progression, that sort of return is not what United paid more than £70million for, and more will be expected of the England international next season. Though, Arsenal legend Wright believes Sancho is heading in the right direction.

“It’s the potential Ten Hag knows he has and he recognised he needed a little bit of a break, (he) sent him to Holland for a bit of a physical and mental recuperation,” Wright said of Sancho on Match of the Day. “We know the capability of this guy, we know what he’s capable of in respect of his skills, he’ll beat people and once he gets that main focal point, like he had at Dortmund with (Marco) Reus, he will do his stuff because we are talking about somebody who from ability-wise, he is absolutely top drawer.

“He’s got six goals and three assists this season and I am sure, with the money they paid for him, they’ll want more - but I am sure that is coming and he’s starting to settle. He will have more players up there to play with, more players to play off and it’s brilliant, I am delighted for him.”
