Rashford, who has 29 goals and nine assists in all competitions this season, missed the 2-0 win over Wolves at Old Trafford on Saturday with injury.

Speaking after the victory, manager Erik ten Hag said on Rashford’s condition: “I can’t tell [what the latest is] in this moment. He is not available. So for this moment, we have to focus on the team who is available.

“I can’t tell in this moment [how long he will be out for] and as I say, it’s not my focus point in this moment.

“I hope [he will be back soon]. Of course. And he will do everything that can be done. The medical staff is working hard on it.”

Rashford’s return to training is positive news for Ten Hag, who looks to have the player available for the crucial run-in as well as the FA Cup final against Man City on June 3.

McTominay has taken a step forward in his own progression with the midfielder back in training after not playing since scoring in the 2-0 triumph over Everton on 8 April.

Raphael Varane was also in training after being withdrawn against Wolves as a pre-caution. Marcel Sabitzer, Lisandro Martinez and Donny van de Beek are out for the remainder of the season.

United are fourth in the Premier League, level on points with Newcastle in third with Liverpool a point behind in fifth. The Reds have played a game more than the two sides above them.
