Dogs may be man’s best friend, but right now in Manchester there are some beautiful animals who are waiting in shelters for the chance to be adopted and become someone’s new canine companion.
The Dogs Trust has launched a new campaign called Underdogs highlighting some of the four-legged friends who have been in its shelters for ages and who are desperate to find a perfect new home. And the organisation has teamed up with wine brand Leaps & Bounds to highlight the cause further. Special bottles of chardonnay are being distributed by Getir in parts of Manchester and you can find out about some of the underdogs by scanning the label on the bottle.
There are currently dozens of lovely dogs in Manchester searching for their forever home. Here we’ve picked out 11 of the canines in the city the Dogs Trust is currently looking to rehome - including the city’s underdogs.
1. Cleo
Energetic Cleo, a two-year-old female retriever labrador cross, is one of the underdogs searching for a home in Manchester. She loves spending time with people and can be lively and bouncy, but needs a home without young children or other pets. Photo: Dogs Trust Photo: Dogs Trust
2. Bruno
Another Manchester underdog is Bruno, a male crossbreed who is eight years old and is looking for a home with no other pets and a secure private garden. Upstairs flats would also not be ideal for him. Photo: Dogs Trust Photo: Dogs Trust
3. Tank
Tank is an active male German shepherd, collie and lurcher cross breed who is three years old and enjoys long walks. Prospective adopters will need to not have an open-plan house or young children. Photo: Dogs Trust Photo: Dogs Trust
4. Sweet Pea
Staffordshire cross breed Sweet Pea, who is also known at the rehoming centre as Peanut, is a five-year-old girl who is affectionate and looking for a quiet and calm home away from main roads. Photo: Dogs Trust Photo: Dogs Trust
