Deansgate closed due to ‘police incident’ in Manchester city centre

Part of Deansgate in Manchester city centre has been closed this morning following an assault.

A stretch of the road between St John Street and Quay Street is shut this morning (3 May) and travel bosses have asked people to plan their journeys around the diversion. Pavements remain open for pedestrians.

TFGM said: “Deansgate (in the) City Centre is closed between St Johns St and Quay Street. This is due to an ongoing police incident. If you’re heading into the city this morning, please plan your journey.”

A GMP spokesman said: “At around 3.45am this morning (Wednesday 3 May 2023) Greater Manchester Police were called to a report of an assault on Deansgate.

“Three males have been arrested on suspicion of a section 18 assault and one man has been taken to hospital with back and leg injuries. Enquiries are still ongoing at this stage.”
