Will Mellor admits he put tracker on his daughter’s phone after filming documentary about Sarah Everard’s murder

Will Mellor has put a tracker on his teenage daughter’s phone after filming his new documentary about police officers ‘who attempt to get away with murder’.

The Coronation Street actor, 46, hosts an eight-part series, titled Cops Who Kill with Will Mellor, which explores eight vile cases where police officers have committed murder.

Since filming the documentary, which aims to “unravel the lies and deceit of officers who attempt to get away with murder”, the father-of-two has downloaded a tracker app on 14-year-old Renee’s phone.

Will told OK! Magazine: “It’s so important. I said to her, ‘I’m not spying on you but if anything happens, I know where you are.’

“I am protective of people but my kids are my world and you just want to protect innocence.”

The first episode of the series, which airs on Monday, will look into the highly publicised case of Sarah Everard who was kidnapped, raped and then murdered in March 2021 whilst walking home from a friends house in central London.

Then-serving Met Office Wayne Couzens was found guilty of murder after he falsely arrested the marketing executive, put her into handcuffs and asked her to get into the back of his car.

In the trailer, Will says it is the “ultimate betrayal of trust” to die at the hands of a police officer, who is sworn to protect the community.

The Strictly Come Dancing star also learnt that, unfortunately, Sarah did everything right that night of 3 March 2021, and still found a cruel fate.

He explains in the documentary: “She’d been to get a bottle of wine, she’d been to her friend’s house, she let her boyfriend know how long she was going to be, it was a busy road.

"Then a policeman asked her to get in the back of his car. There’s no way she could have protected herself once she was in that car, in handcuffs.

"That’s what made me feel sick about that case more than anything else, was her sat in the back of that car, realising, ‘This is wrong’.”

Will also commended the police for the ‘work that went into catching’ Wayne, but noted that “he should never have been in the police” in the first place.

Wayne Couzens is currently serving a whole-life sentence for the murder of Sarah Everard.

On Monday, 6 March, Wayne is also set to be sentenced for three counts of indecent exposure committed in the months before Sarah’s death.

Cops Who Kill with Will Mellor will air on Crime + Investigation at 10pm, that same day.

The documentary also looks into the cases of killer cops Steve Jones, Darren McKie, Keith Farquharson and Karl Bluestone.
