Manchester United have confirmed that defender Victor Lindelof was spotted training at Carrington today ahead of Thursday’s Europa League clash with Real Sociedad.

The Sweden international was missing from the matchday squad with illness as the Red Devils beat West Ham 1-0 at the weekend, with Harry Maguire returning to the fold to replace him. Lindelof has featured in four of United’s five group stage fixtures so far this season and is likely to be handed another start in Spain if he is fully fit. The 28-year-old’s return to training will be a huge boost for United following the injury to Raphael Varane. The Frenchman limped off in tears against Chelsea as he feared he would be out of the World Cup, while it means he will be unavailable for Erik Ten Hag’s side until after the international competition.

Meanwhile, United have suffered a blow with the absence of both Jadon Sancho and Anthony from training this morning. The former was an unused substitute against West Ham, while Antony missed out altogether with a minor injury. It was expected the Brazilian would return ‘in a couple of days’ but he could miss tomorrow’s game if he is yet to return to training.

The Red Devils will kick off their final match of the Europa League group stage at 5:45pm on Thursday evening and will need to beat Real Sociedad by two clear goals to top Group E after losing to the Spaniards 1-0 in September.
