Photo North Festival: acclaimed photographers coming to Manchester for spectacular celebration of images

The images range from the hard-hitting and thought-provoking to the simply stunning, and feature top Manchester talent alongside amazing lensmen and women from further afield.

Some of the world’s most acclaimed photographers will be coming to Manchester for the Photo North Festival.

Bonded Warehouse will play host to a stunning selection of images from 7-9 May for the third edition of the event which brings together Manchester talent and lensmen and women from further afield.

One of the highest-profile photographers on display will be Tom Stoddart, with images from his final book Extraordinary Women: Images of Courage, Endurance and Defiance going on show in memory of him.

Another series of images will be those taken by Richard Davis who moved into Hulme in 1989 and began to document everyday life around him.

He took photographs of rising Manchester stars such as Lemn Sissay, Steve Coogan and Caroline Ahearn in a squat and provided what is now a compelling record of the area’s history before it was comprehensively regenerated and the district’s tower blocks were bulldozed.

Chris Floyd’s photos of the rise of the band The Verve from Wigan in the 1990s will also be on display, showcasing the unique access to the musicians he enjoyed at that time.

More recent images are those by David Collyer, who documented the working life of the staff at Nevill Hall hospital in Abergavenny in Wales as they adapted to the arrival of Covid-19.

As well as the exhibitions there will be book and magazine stalls, photo walks, workshops, portfolio reviews, screenings, a licensed bar and networking opportunities.
