Manchester United currently have 14 players out on loan with several names looking to use their temporary spell elsewhere as a platform to earn themselves a potential sport in the first team next season.

Of the 14 names, two of them are spending the campaign at different Premier League clubs, while another duo are playing at separate teams in the Scottish Premiership.

In addition, one individual is competing in La Liga, another in Brazil’s top-flight, while seven others are also divided between the Championship, League One and League Two and the National League sees a sole player earning first team experience.

With that being said, let’s take a closer look at how each individual is getting on while out on loan.

Brandon Williams

United youth academy graduate Brandon Williams joined Premier League newcomers Norwich City at the beginning of the season and finds himself fighting with Max Aarons, Sam Byram and Dimitris Giannoulis for a starting place.

Since moving to Carrow Road he has featured 11 times in England’s top-flight as well as once in the Carabao Cup.

His temporary departure from Old Trafford was expected due to the Red Devils having four other full-backs on their books.

Williams will now be trying to help steer Norwich away from the relegation zone come May, with the Canaries sat bottom of the league.

Axel Tuanzebe

Another individual on loan in the Premier League is Axel Tuanzebe. The 24-year-old is in his third spell with Aston Villa and has made 11 appearances in all competitions for the Midlands outfit.

The centre-back slipped down the pecking order at United with the signing of Raphael Varane in the summer, meaning another spell away from the club seemed ideal.

Reece Devine

A lesser known name to the Red Devils’ faithful due to him not featuring for the first team yet, Reece Devine is spending the duration of this campaign at St Johnstone.

Now 20, the left-back is a former youth player at Wolves and Manchester City and can also play on the left-wing and at centre-back.

Devine is expected to rejoin United’s Under-23 team when his spell in Scotland comes to an end.

Dylan Levitt

Dundee United signed Dylan Levitt on a season-long loan at the beginning of the season, with the side sat fifth in the league.

The 21-year-old is yet to register a goal or assist for the Terrors despite making 10 appearances for the Scottish club in all competitions.

He’ll be hoping his performances in the second-half of the campaign will earn him a return to the Wales set-up, with his last start for his nation on 1 September.

Facundo Pellistri

The only player spending their loan spell in Spain is Facundo Pellistri, having joined La Liga side Alaves for a second stint.

Pellistri has featured 16 times in the Spanish top-flight without finding the back of the net and will be hoping he can turn his form around come the new year.

The 20-year-old came to the Red Devils with much promise and could face questions as to whether he’ll be a future United player if he doesn’t start firing soon.

Andreas Pereira

Andreas Pereira moved to Brazilian club Flamengo in August, his fourth spell away from the Red Devils.

The midfielder has publicly expressed his wish to stay with Flamengo, telling ESPN: “My desire has always been to stay here at Flamengo, and now we are going to do everything”

"We are going to talk to President Landim and Marcos Braz to make this possible. Of course, I have a feeling that I owe the fans a title.

"As I told them, you can count on me, I’ll do my best so that next year we can come out with those titles there."

Pereira mentioned him ‘owing’ the Brazilian outfit a title, due to his backpass in the final of the Copa Libertadores being intercepted by Palmeiras’ Deyverson and the latter scoring the winning goal as a result.

James Garner

Having joined Nottingham Forest for the second-half of the last campaign, the two-time European Cup winners opted to sign James Garner at the beginning of this season as well.

A defensive-midfielder, who is also comfortable playing in a slightly higher role, the 20-year-old could be a United star in the near future.

Garner has been ever-present for Forest since rejoining the club and has received high-praise from their fanbase for his performances so far.

Ethan Laird

Ethan Laird sealed a season-long loan to Championship outfit Swansea City in mid-August and has been a key player for the team since.

His move to the 2013 League Cup winners reunited him with boss Russell Martin who he worked with at MK Dons the previous campaign.

The right-back has featured in 20 of the 22 league games for the Swans so far, registering three assists.

Tahith Chong

Dutch midfielder Tahith Chong joined Birmingham City on loan in the summer in order to develop.

However, though still registered with the Blues, the 22-year-old suffered a groin injury in November that will keep him out for the majority of the campaign.

He was a pivotal member of Lee Bowyer’s squad before his injury and has since been rehabilitating at the Red Devils’ Carrington training ground.

Di’Shon Bernard

Newly-promoted Championship club Hull City acquired Di’Shon Bernard on loan for the season in the summer.

The centre-back has competed for game-time with Jacob Greaves, Alfie Jones and Sean McLoughlin at the Yorkshire outfit, making 10 appearances in all competitions for the Tigers.

Despite mainly playing for United’s Under-23s, his only senior start for the club came during a 2-1 Europa League defeat to FC Astana in November 2019.

Ethan Galbraith

Ethan Galbraith sealed first first loan spell away from the Red Devils with a move to Doncaster Rovers in August.

The central-midfielder has been ever-present for the League One side, featuring in 22 games for the club in all competitions.

He has one goal to his name and two assists so far, with the Northern Ireland international hoping his performances for Donny in the second-half of the campaign can earn him a recall to Ian Baraclough squad.

Nathan Bishop

United’s fifth-choice goalkeeper Nathan Bishop joined Mansfield Town on loan for the season in summer with the 22-year-old seeking first team opportunities.

Luckily for the shot-stopper he has received just that, playing every league game for the Stags so far this campaign.

D’Mani Mellor

Red Devils’ Under-23 striker D’Mani Mellor moved to Salford City on loan in the summer in hope that the move would help further develop him as a player.

Unfortunately for the 21-year-old it has been the complete opposite, with Mellor only making one appearance in League Two.

The lack of game-time at Salford could force Ralf Rangnick to recall the forward next month and find another suitable loan club for the remainder of the campaign.

Will Fish

Will Fish is the only United player out on loan in the National League with the centre-back spending the season with Stockport County.

The 18-year-old is in a similar predicament to Mellor with Fish only featuring in two National League games for the Hatters.

At such a young age, a return to the Red Devils would arguably be the best option in order to re-loan the defender or for him to play Under-23s football.
