Storm Nigel: Met Office forecast for Greater Manchester as yellow weather warning issued

Storm Nigel is set to hit Greater Manchester today, with heavy rain and strong winds in the forecast. A yellow Met Office weather warning is currently in place for some parts of the region. 

The warning is in place for rain, with heavy showers set to batter Greater Manchester until at least the early afternoon. The storm should break, but it is seat to be a wet and windy morning.

Up until the early afternoon, you can expect to feel wind gusts of over 25mph across Manchester. This will hit 30mph and over this morning. 

The Met Office has warned of some of the types of disruption the stormy conditions could cause. This includes bus and train services probably affected with journey times taking longer, as well as spray and flooding on roads potentially making journey times longer. 

The yellow weather warning was commissioned for Manchester in the early hours of this morning. It is currently in place until 6pm, although the weather should improve long before then.

A wet and windy start with rain spreading southeastwards through the morning. Turning fresher behind with sunshine and showers, these locally heavy and thundery. Winds slightly easing though still breezy, especially around any showers. Maximum temperature 18C.

Day-time showers gradually fading through the evening with clear intervals. Some showers approaching from the west by dawn and feeling cooler. Minimum temperature 7C.

A fresh start with a mixture of sunshine and scattered showers through the day. Showers could turn heavy at times, with the odd rumble of thunder. Remaining breezy. Maximum temperature 17C.

Often changeable with sunshine and heavy showers on Friday. Drier on Saturday with sunnier spells, then turning unsettled with heavy rain and stronger winds on Sunday. Feeling cool.
