Manchester will have to endure freezing cold temperatures for at least a few more days, before being in for quite a radical change starting next week. The Met Office have issued a yellow weather warning for snow and ice on Sunday, as the last remnants of this year’s first cold snap makes its mark on the city.

The yellow weather warning, in place from 3am to 9pm on Sunday (December 18), means there will be some possible travel delays as snow is predicted to fall. The warning also says that there is risk of injury as ice is likely to form on the ground.

The snow and cold is however looking to be short lived, as temperatures are forecast to rise to above 10 °C next week as wetter, milder weather makes its way across the North West. Here is the weather forecast for Manchester and the North West as we enter the weekend.

Friday (December 16) is starting off much the same way as we have gotten used to over the last week, with freezing fog lingering through the morning, before bringing a clear and sunny day. The wintry showers are forecast to become more frequent as we approach the evening and overnight some risk of snow on higher elevations. There is a risk of frost in areas not affected by the showers, and temperatures are looking to drop to around -4C.

Saturday (December 17) will see wintry showers becoming more frequent, more confined to the south later on in the day. The day will remain mostly cloudy with winds increasing from the west but some areas far north may get a few spots of sunshine. Temperatures around 5 C.
