The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for parts of Greater Manchester. This is ahead of strong winds set to hit the region this week.

The warning will be in place for areas to the west of Manchester, with Wigan included. Manchester itself will have unsettled conditions, but will not technically be covered by the warning.

The warning is set to come into place at 3pm on Tuesday April 11. It will remain in effect until at least 6am on Wednesday April 12.

Heavy rain and gusts of up to 35mph are expected on Tuesday night in some parts of the region. Both the rain and wind should ease heading into Wednesday morning.

Met Office chief meteorologist Jason Kelly said: “A change is on the way for the UK weather as the dry, settled, and in places warm conditions are replaced by a more unsettled weather pattern from Sunday afternoon.

“This change happens first for Northern Ireland and Scotland, where Sunday afternoon rain will be replaced by blustery showers overnight and into Monday. Elsewhere, a mainly dry, but increasingly cloudy day on Sunday, with rain arriving for parts of Wales and southwest England by evening. Rain spreads east across other areas into Monday, with showers following.”
