Heavy rain is on the way for Greater Manchester this weekend

Greater Manchester is gearing up for a wet weekend, with heavy showers forecast for Saturday night into Sunday morning. The rain comes as a yellow weather warning has been issued for much of England, including the region.

The warning will come into effect at 3pm on Saturday February 17. At present, the warning is due to come to an end at 6pm on Sunday February 18.

The rain looks set to hold off until Saturday night, with the first of the wet stuff to start falling at 4pm and is then set to get heavier as the night goes on. The showers should start to ease by 3am, but dark clouds will remain throughout Sunday.

Met Office on what to expect

The Met Office has issued details on what we can expect during the weather warning. It can be advised that if you are driving, you should take extra care:

  • Bus and train services probably affected with journey times taking longer
  • Spray and flooding on roads probably making journey times longer
  • Flooding of a few homes and businesses is likely
  • Some interruption to power supplies and other services likely

Met Office forecast for North West England

February 16

Often cloudy today with periods of mist and fog over higher ground. Light showers are possible, these perhaps merging into longer spells of rain in places through the morning. Occasional brighter spells developing, especially later, and still mild for February. Maximum temperature 11C.

Mainly dry overnight with some clear spells at first, but skies turning generally cloudy with some murky conditions and patchy drizzle developing over higher ground. Staying quite mild. Minimum temperature 5C.

February 17

Generally cloudy with perhaps some drizzle or light showers and mist at times, especially over higher ground. Perhaps a few brighter interludes. Heavy rain arriving later and turning breezier. Mild. Maximum temperature 14C.

Staying mild and often dry with occasional sunny spells. A few showers are possible, mainly on Monday when some will be heavy. Rain possible later on Tuesday. Breezy at times.
