Manchester weather forecast: Strong winds set to batter region as Met Office issues all-day yellow warning

Greater Manchester is set for a windy Saturday this weekend as gusts of up to 45 mph set to hit the region. With many people expected to be out and about Christmas shopping or at the Christmas markets, the streets will be busy as the windy weather hits.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning which covers a large area of the North West- including all of the Greater Manchester area. The warning will come into place at 9am on Saturday December 9 and will remain active until 11.45pm.

The worst of the wind can be expected at around 5pm, with gusts of up to 45 mph set to hit the region. These will ease but only slightly through the night, remaining at around 40 mph overnight.

Often cloudy with showers, these perhaps merging into longer spells of heavy rain at times. Feeling noticeably milder than of late but breezy, especially during the afternoon. Maximum temperature 9C.

Windy and showery this evening, with more general heavy rain in places. Turning drier and less windy for a time, then further rain arriving around dawn. Temperatures remaining above freezing. Minimum temperature 4C.

December 10 

A generally wet day with periods of heavy rain, this perhaps turning somewhat more showery during the afternoon. Becoming increasingly very windy with gales spreading northwards later. Mild. Maximum temperature 10C.
