Manchester weather for Platinum Jubilee weekend 2022: what is Met Office weather forecast for long weekend?

The special four day weekend for Queen Elizabth II’s Platinum Jubilee is less than one month away, and people across Manchester will likely be finalising plans for how they will spend it.

The weekend will be a landmark event, as Queen Elizabeth becomes the first monarch in British history to celebrate 70 years on the throne.

Whether you are spending the weekend celebrating the jubilee or you are looking to get away from it all for a few days, the weather forecast will be important to keep in mind.

As we look ahead to the weekend, here’s what we know so far about the Met Office long range forecast, and how the weekend may look across the Manchetser area.

When is the bank holiday weekend?

The Platinum Jubilee weekend begins on Thursday, 2 June and finishes on Sunday, 5 June.

The weekend consists of two bank holidays which fall on 2 and 3 June. These are the rearranged late bank holiday and a special bank holiday created for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

What is the outlook for the Jubilee weekend?

According to weather site Accuweather, the jubilee weekend looks likely to be a mixed bag in terms of the forecast.

Thursday, 2 June

A mixed day is forecast for the first day of the weekend, with showers expected through most of the morning.

The showers should ease off in the afternoon, and Manchester could see wind gusts of around 26mph.

There could be a temperature as high as 14°C, with a feels like temperature of around 13°C.

Thursday night could remain mild at around 10°C and there shouldn’t be much rain around to dampen any evening plans.

Friday, 3 June

Friday will be mostly cloudy to start with, but there will be showers around and the temperature shouldn’t drop below 18°C until late in the evening.

There is the risk of some showers through the afternoon.

The cloud looks set to remain over the city through Friday night, and temperatures may only drop as low as 11°C, and the ‘feels-like’ temperature could only drop to around 9°C.

Saturday, 4 June

Saturday will see plenty more sunshine across Manchester, and this could last most of the day.

We could see highs of 16°C throughout much of the day, and there is very little chance of rain around for Saturday.

We can expect to see some showers throughout the day.

Saturday night will drop into single figures, dropping to 9°C in places.

Sunday, 5 June

The last day of the weekend will see more of the same - plenty of sunshine and only some cloud, with temperatures potentially reaching as high as 15°C.

This will drop to around 11°C by the evening.

What is the Met Office long range forecast for the UK?

The long range forecast from the Met Office now covers the beginning of June, including the Platinum Jubilee weekend.

Below is the current Met Office forecast which covers 24 May to 7 June.

The forecast reads: “Through this period, we can expect to see a change in the weather to more widely unsettled conditions.

With spells of rain or showers for most, some potentially heavy or thundery, drier spells do remain possible especially in the south and southwest.

“Temperatures will continue to be above average, especially in the south where it could remain warm or very warm further into the period. Further north, a return to nearer normal temperatures is possible.”
