It’s been an icy cold start to January in Manchester, with winter taking the city and region in its grip. The low temperatures are set to come back with a vengeance next week, and this could lead to further wintry conditions.

Snow is on the way for large areas of the UK, and Manchester is set to be on the receiving end of some of this. BBC Weather has said that snowfall can be expected in the city by the end of next week. Next week looks set to be another cold one, with some days having a high temperature of no more than 4 or 5C and the mixed bag of weather will be rounded off by some snow showers.

On Friday January 19 the forecaster has suggested light snow may fall across Manchester. According to the forecast, this is likely to be throughout the day from around 6am and also into the evening from around 8pm to 3am the following morning.

The middle of the day will look like something far removed from a winter scene, with bright sunshine forecast across the city. However, temperatures across the day will get no higher than 3C, even when the sun is out.

The early hours of January 19 will see Manchester hit with sleet showers, and this will turn into snow for several hours during the day. The sleet will turn into rain in the early hours of the next day. Any chance of the snow sticking around looks slim, with rain forecast for the following day (January 20). A slight increase in the temperature will also help towards this.
