Christmas is just a few days away, and many are rushing out for last minute shopping and preparations. But the one thing no last minute shopping can fix, is whether Manchester will wake up to a white Christmas this year.

Christmas films often show us white landscapes, but unfortunately this is seldom the reality here in the UK. The Met Office has released its weather forecast up to Boxing Day for Manchester and the North west .

December saw temperatures drop to below zero and weather warnings issued across Manchester. But the week leading up to Christmas started, temperatures were once again up to over 10C, making the chances of a white holiday season seem bleak.

If you are heading out on the road, however, the milder weather might have been more welcome. And looking ahead, temperatures are looking to stay above freezing in the days leading up to Christmas.

Thursday (December 22) is a rather grey and wet day, with clouds building with showery rain sweeping across the region. The northern parts of the region might however be treated to a few suny spells. Temperatures during the day are around 8C.

The North West will stay largely dry overnight leading to Friday, with some clear spells but with clouds in the south. Temperatures will however stay above freezing at minimum 2C.

As Christmas arrives the weather will vary a lot across Manchester with showers and longer periods of rain interspersed by sunny spells throughout both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

The Christmas weekend is looking to be rather mild and breezy at times. As Boxing Day arrives, however, it is likely to turn a bit colder again.
